Maddie Bebout is a New Jersey–based painter whose work explores the geometry of place. Inspired by both nostalgic coastal scenes and the structured energy of sports arenas, her paintings capture familiar environments into bold compositions defined by crisp linework and vibrant color. Drawing inspiration from Hilton Head Island, her time as a competitive swimmer, and her lifelong fanhood of Notre Dame, she reinterprets memory through simplified shapes and layered hues, celebrating both the quiet moments of coastal life and the dynamic rhythm of sports architecture.
Growing up as a creative, Maddie loved exploring new mediums in her art classes. Whether it was coloring in her coloring book, playing around with paints and watercolor, attempting to knit, and even creating a clay bust of her dad, she had such a passion for creating with her hands. Maddie had big dreams from a young age; from wanting to design her own Notre Dame merch to be featured in the bookstore one day after pointing out to her grandma what color she wished pieces came in, to even wanting to design the football uniforms, Maddie wanted to make it all. When it came to college, she paused her creative goals to pursue a BS in Accounting from the University of Delaware, followed by earning her MS in Business Analytics from her dream school, the University of Notre Dame. After a short time in the corporate life, Maddie left her 9-5 to find her creative passion once again. Starting her own art business in May 2024, Maddie has been back to creating and dreaming big ever since.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Blending sports and art feels very authentic for my work, as both have made a large impact on my journey. For a long time, I struggled to find a way to enjoy both the creative and the athlete in me; it always felt like it had to be one or the other. As I began exploring my creativity again a few years ago, I found it necessary to finally embrace both sides, mix them, and push past the outside hesitations.
Visually, my work explores the geometry of sports architecture, from the line at the bottom of a lap pool to the lanes of a colorful track. But, these paintings also carry the passion I have for people following their own dreams. As art lovers and collectors see my work, I hope they feel that passion and encouragement to travel down their own unique path and go after their goals, just as I am.
